This project is two fold. One: we create plarn (plastic yarn). Two: We crochet a bag.
The first thing I did was create plastic yarn. I used grocery plastic bags as not only did I have a massive, ever growing collection of them, but because I thought it would be an interesting commentary on "luxury" becoming fash fashion, the disposability of trends, or that "status symbols" are actually just trash, I'm still not sure on.
To do this, I cut the plastic bags into one inch strips and then loop the one inch strips together to create a chain. At one point I thought about braiding the strips together to make them stronger, but I decided against that because I dind't want to anymore.
Then I bought a crochet hook. I have never in my life crocheted an item before, so this was a little daunting. However, both my mom and my sister both crocheted, so I know a little something. The smaller the hook, the smaller the knot, but the harder it would be. So I grabbed a medium sized hook.
I had a hell of a time trying to find a pattern, or really proper dimensions for the birkin. I don't own one myself, so I can't compair sizes or dimension, so I will have base it on photos from online to make educated guesses on how tall or how ide it needs to be.
Currently I have the fron, back, sides, and I am currently working on the bottom.
